Cell Phones Aren’t the Only Piece of Technology that is Advancing – The Dental Profession Gets Onboard with the Techno-Era

noc-cell phones arent the only tech

With new smartphones upgrading every couple of months we understand the importance of advancement and staying modern with technology…

It is extremely important to keep up-to-date with new advancements in the medical and dental profession to ensure treatments are efficient and top grade against competitors. Here at Curtis R. Couch D.D.S in Thousand Oaks California we make sure we keep our practice up-to-date with the latest technology to ensure we provide our patients with the best products in the business. New dental technology such as digital imaging and X-rays along with new laser dentistry innovations has allowed the profession to advance and offer treatments that save you time and provide better results. Today’s advanced dental treatments and materials offer our patients a healthier, more complete smile that can last a lifetime. Our practice can help revitalize and maintain our patient’s teeth and gums, giving you the smile you’ve always wanted.

We are digital at Curtis R. Couch…

Today digital cameras are used for capturing our memorable moments and now the dental profession is capturing our oral health with the use of digital technology, except this technology is so advanced it let us do more than just capture a photo of your mouth. We have joined the world of digital imaging to ensure we have a more accurate vision of your mouth to use during diagnosis. Radiographs allow us to all the things we cannot see with our own eyes. They permit us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. With radiographs we can also examine the roots and nerves of your teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs. Compared to traditional radiography, with digital imaging, exposure time is about fifty percent less. With our digital X-rays we are able to view our images on a much larger surface than ever before. Now that we are able to view the image on a computer monitor, instead of holding up a 35mm film up to the light, digital X-rays result in less of the radiation exposure to you.

Scared of needles? We’ve got new technology for that too…

Laser dentistry is one of the dental profession’s latest advances. It works by delivering energy in the form of light. We can use lasers at Dr. Curtis R. Couch for enamel, decay, gum tissue, or whitening enhancers. Laser dentistry can be used for both tooth and soft tissue related procedures. Unlike dental drills, with laser dentistry there is no heat or vibration, making the procedure more comfortable for most patients. Lasers can also be used to diagnose cavities. They can find hidden decay in teeth in early stages, and in some cases the decay can be reversed through hygiene and fluoride treatment and may never need filling. Areas of dental care that benefit from laser technology:
  • Cavity diagnosis and removal
  • Curing, or hardening, bonding materials
  •  Whitening teeth
  • Periodontal, or gum related, care
  • Apthous Ulcer treatment (canker sore)
  • Frenectomy (tongue-tie release) without anesthesia or sutures
  • Root canals and apicoectomies
  • Crown lengthening, gingivectomy and other gum corrections
  •  Dental lasers have been shown to be safe and effective for treating children and adults
For patients who are concerned about needles, drilling, or numbness our new laser technology will give you comfort in knowing there is an alternative to traditional techniques involved with needles and drills. Is it safe to put a laser in my mouth? If the dental laser is used according to the accepted practices by a trained practitioner, then it is just as safe as other dental instruments, at Dr. Curtis R. Couch we ensure we follow all professional standards and use best practice. However, just as you wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from prolonged exposure to the sun, when we perform a laser procedure, you will be asked to wear special eyeglasses to protect your eyes from the laser. Laser technology allows us to achieve desired results without using old time consuming and painful instruments that are now considered dated.

I wish I could see what my dentist was doing…

Now you can! Dr. Curtis R. Couch uses an intraoral camera (which is a very small camera – in some cases, just a few millimeters long) to look inside the tight areas of your mouth. An intraoral camera allows us to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums, in order for us to accurately make a diagnosis. As a result this clear, defined, enlarged image, we can see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations used in the past. What this means for our patients is faster diagnosis with less chair-time! Intra oral cameras also enable us to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. Dr. Curtis R. Couch will show you the images and explain in detail about the problem areas and give you a better understanding of your mouth. We also use microscopes that are similar to the ones an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) uses, which enables us to create dental restorations with an incredibly precise fit and finish. Many dentists use air-driven hand-pieces or drills. While acceptable for many procedures, air powered hand pieces all have a degree of non-concentricity; they do not rotate perfectly smoothly. The microscopes used here at Dr. Curtis R. Couch ensure we can complete clean and precise procedures. At Dr. Curtis R. Couch in Thousand Oaks California we pride ourselves on having the most up-to-date technology within the dental profession. Our cutting edge equipment enhances the quality of our dental care and provides treatments that are efficient and effective. Our devotion to the best quality equipment and modern technology is what sets us apart from other clinics and why patients can feel confident putting their mouths in our hands.
