Dental Bonding and What It Can Do for You

Dental bonding is an alternative to veneers

Dental-Bonding-and-What-It-Can-Do-for-You If your teeth are discolored, chipped, cracked or misaligned then dental bonding may be the answer for you. Sometimes our teeth become discolored beyond the help of even the best tooth whitening treatments. When this happens at Curtis R. Couch D.D.S. in Thousand Oaks we have a range of treatment options to help you smile brightly again.

Dr. Curtis Couch’s Range Of Restorative Dental Treatments…

Here at our Thousand Oaks dental practice we offer a range of cosmetic and restorative dentistry options to help you claim back your health-looking white smile. Our range of treatments include:
  1. Dental bonding
  2. Inlays and Onlays
  3. Veneers
These three treatments are great for brightening your smile if tooth whitening treatments are no longer able to do the job. All three treatments can also strengthen and protect your tooth from further damage.

1. Dental Bonding

An alternative to veneers, dental bonding is an effective restorative treatment for chipped, cracked, discolored or misaligned teeth. The process: Dental bonding involves preparing the tooth by lightly etching the surface of the tooth. Once this is done a bonding liquid is applied to the prepared surface. After the liquid sets a plastic resin is applied and the sculpted by one our dentists. Once the resin is set it will be trimmed and shaped, smoothed and polished to replicate a natural appearance. The dental bonding procedure can be undertaken in one appointment, and can improve the appearance of your tooth significantly. It should be mentioned that the resin isn’t as strong as tooth enamel. This means that it is more likely to stain, chip or break than natural teeth. The bonding usually lasts between 3 to 5 years before it’ll need to be repaired.

2. Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are pieces that are bonded to the damaged area of the tooth. There are three types of materials inlays and onlays can be made from: gold, composite resin and porcelain. What is the difference?
  • Inlays
An inlay is used inside the cusp tips of the tooth and is similar to a filling
  • Onlays
An onlay is a more involved version of the inlay: an onlay extends out over one or more cusps of the tooth. Did you know that traditional filling treatments can reduce the strength of your tooth by 50%? Whereas Inlays and Onlays can strengthen your tooth by up to 75%. One of the many great things about inlays and onlays is that they can last anywhere from 10 years to 30 years!

3. Veneers

Veneers are thin ceramic shells that are bonded directly onto the front of your tooth. Due to their simplicity, veneers are becoming an ever popular treatment choice. Veneers are a great cosmetic treatment for improving the aesthetics of your smile, and are custom designed to color match your teeth. By getting veneers at Curtis R. Couch D.D.S. in Thousand Oaks you will be receiving the highest quality porcelain veneers.
