Limit the regular consumption of sugar during the holiday season to save your teeth!
The regular consumption of sugary treats can be more dangerous to your teeth than the sugar itself!
The holiday season is upon us, and at Curtis Couch D.D.S we would like to take this time to remind our patients to enjoy the festivities – in moderation! Frequent consumption of sugar can be more detrimental to your oral health than the sugar itself. Believe it or not eating the treats all at once is actually better for your teeth than eating smaller portions more frequently over the holiday break.
The worst food offenders to be wary of this season…
Sweetened drinks such as soda, juice and sticky sweets like peanut brittle and fruit snacks linger on the teeth and cover them with sugar. It is this sugary coating on the teeth that allow bacteria to accumulate and cause cavities!
Other risk factors that can cause cavities include:
• Plaque
• Exposed tooth root surfaces
• Low saliva flow
• Having deep pits and grooves where food particles can be trapped
Keep your oral health in optimal condition with the help of Dr. Curtis Couch…
Maintain your oral health by brushing your teeth at least twice a day with a soft bristled toothbrush, held at a 45 degree angle. Try to floss at least once daily before sleep, as this will help eliminate any food particles stuck between teeth.
